When dismantling buildings, the aspect of building contaminants must be taken into consideration due to strict waste specifications. Not only industrially used buildings can contain hazardous materials, office and residential buildings have also been found to be problematic.

Unnecessarily high disposal costs are incurred if contaminated materials are mixed with unimpacted construction debris during dismantling. A systematic preliminary survey can avoid these additional costs.

Contaminant analyses of the building materials thus form the basis for detailed project planning and qualified bidding documents and ensure that there is no delay in the construction process due to contaminants and/or that the planned measures remain economically viable.

The particular challenges of “controlled” dismantling are, however, not restricted to the issue of hazardous materials. All waste that accumulates must be separated into identical materials insofar as possible. This necessitates meticulous planning of the dismantling process and the compilation of disposal concepts. Occupational safety and immission control, and ultimately also specifications for demolition technology, are part of the planning of the dismantling.
